With community support and collaboration, the mission of Easter Seals Alberta is to provide resources and services that enhance the quality of life for individuals and their families with disabilities and special needs. Easter Seals Alberta serves the mobility and accessibility needs of Albertans, no matter the age, disease, or disability. We provide fully-accessible facilities and programs including Easter Seals Camp Horizon and Easter Seals McQueen Residence.
Easter Seals, Alberta, was founded in 1951 to assist children and young adults with disabilities and/or special needs to attain equipment that enhances independence for them and their families.
The proceeds from the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay are used to provide equipment such as ramps, wheelchairs, home adaptations, mobility devices, communication aids and environmental controls for children and young adults with disabilities and special needs. This equipment greatly enhances a person's independence and opens the door to education, recreation, and future employment opportunities.
The $5,000 or more that each team raises may provide the following:
- An accessible van conversion
- A specialized computer system
- A communication device
- A motorized scooter
- A power wheelchair
Easter Seals Alberta also operates Easter Seals Camp Horizon and Easter Seals McQueen Residence. The Easter Seals Camp Horizon is located in Kananaskis Country, Bragg Creek, Alberta (west of Calgary). The camp is entirely wheelchair accessible and equipped with an archery range, swimming pool and hot tub, climbing and traverse walls, high and low ropes course and comfortable lodges. More than just a fun and safe camping experience, Camp Horizon provides many opportunities for building self-esteem and independence, challenging the mind and the body, and creating lasting friendships and memories.
The Easter Seals McQueen Residence provides residential care for nine adults with physical disabilities in Edmonton, Alberta. The residence provides 24 hour care and helps residents learn skills so they can achieve independence and eventually move out on their own.
Support the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay - your donation makes a big difference in the lives of children and young adults with disabilities.
