Rundle Park, Edmonton, Alberta

Entrance 28 Street and 118 Avenue

The Event

Up to 50 teams of 20 runners each will get ready for a 10:00 a.m. start to a 24 hour continuous relay. Each member of the team will run or walk a 2.5 km loop before passing the baton to a team mate. Over the 24 hours each participant can expect to run, walk, jog, or wheel 5-8 times depending on the overall speed of the team.

Why would almost 1000 people want to undertake such a marathon, running day and night for 24 hours?

Well, part of it is the personal satisfaction of setting and achieving such a large goal. However, if you ask those who have been part of it in the past, it is much more than that. Months before the actual weekend of the event, the teams are hard at work raising pledges to support Easter Seals...to support children and young adults with physical disabilities and/or serious illness.

Activities

Everyone has a great time at the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay. The day begins with the opening ceremonies and an aerobic workout, and from then on, the fun never stops.

When participants aren't running, they are enjoying volleyball, tug-of-war, massage therapy, miniature golf, team contests, entertainment, and a beer garden.

As darkness falls over Rundle Park, the relay teams continue to run for Easter Seals. Meanwhile, "the party with a purpose" continues with an evening swim and hottubs, great entertainment, great music, refreshments, and all night movies. There is even camping available overnight for participants!

Sunday morning arrives, and all participants are invited to a complimentary breakfast, and then it's on to the closing ceremonies, award presentations, and finally home for some well deserved rest.
